Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. 48 When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
On our Prayer Walks, one of our leaders hands out cards with Scripture on one side and our church information on the other. These are hand made and the cards are shaped like… a fish. People often remark on them and therefore are loath to throw it away. Very clever. Jesus would approve because of this truth he taught in Matthew 13. We are called to make disciples of ALL nations. That means we are to gather fish of every kind. Therefore, when the nets are full, Jesus will return to measure for the keepers, as fishermen call them. I think.
My friend Dan Allen signs all his emails, “Until the nets are filled, Dan”. I love that because it means they will be, but it also means they are not yet filled. We are not to inspect the fish to see if they are bad, as Jesus said, but we are to gather the fish until the fishing season ends. Period. Don’t go for the big fish only. Go to the highways, the byways, and the alleys. There are fish there too. When Jesus returns, the season for fish is over and all the nations’ fish will honor him…
That’s a lot of fish!
