Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
When a car is new and running well, we cannot wait to drive it and will go on long road trips just for the joy of the journey. When the car has 212,000 miles on it like mine does, you dread going to get milk and pray you make it back. You no longer enjoy the journey. The Jewish Christians that were the intended audience had ceased to enjoy the journey in their church. The joy that had come when their faith was new had abated in the face of opposition and persecution. They were tempted to trade in their church for the old system of Judaism where at least they knew they would get home alive. They wavered and stayed away. This was less than encouraging.
Your faith may be shiny and new and you cannot wait to get on the journey. If that is you, use this passage to stay the course when the miles add up. If you are wavering, take this opportunity to make the voyage new again. He who promised is faithful. He said these trials would come but he also said you will never be alone on the journey. He will be with you on the journey until the end of the age. That Day is drawing nearer than ever before. Encourage one another, gather together in church and pray for…
Strength for the journey.
