Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel. 21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will.
There are many opponents of Christianity that say that Jesus never claimed to be God but it was added in later by the disciples who wrote the gospels. What they fail to answer is why these same disciples died in his name. Then there are some Christians who use these verses to say that the Trinity is not real and that Jesus is not God but is subordinate to God. These people fail to read the preceding verse that says the Jews wanted to kill him for making himself equal with God.
A startling survey has come out in recent weeks that raises this question of the Trinity anew. According to this survey, the majority of Christians in America do not believe the Holy Spirit is real. This raises one question. What on God’s green earth is going on here? These people fail to read the Bible at all. They fail to hear from our pulpits that God is one in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They fail to hear it possibly because it is not being preached.
