Psalm 116:5-9
Gracious is the LORD, and righteous;
our God is merciful.
6 The LORD preserves the simple;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return, O my soul, to your rest;
for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.
8 For you have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling;
9 I will walk before the LORD
in the land of the living.
We can endure this day because of that day. That day is when the Lord returns to make things right and usher in his kingdom. That phrase becomes a theme of many messages because it is the theme of many passages in the New Testament. We suffer for the Lord because the crown awaits us. This psalm begins with the psalmist’s love for the Lord because he has delivered him. He is gracious, righteous, and merciful. Therefore the psalmist can endure this day.
How much better it is for us! We can run the race like Paul, knowing there is a crown of righteousness that awaits us at the finish line. The Savior and the plan has been revealed to us so we can rest in him. He will dry our tears and restore our steps. Death will be no more. We can walk before the Lord in the land of the living because we will walk with him in the Way, the Truth, and the Life. In this world of pandemic and division, we can walk this earth as if we are on our way to a party; because we are. Think of those loved ones today who are walking in the land of the dead. Share the hope of Jesus Christ with them today.
Invite them to the party.
