On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ ” 39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

When drought hits, it may seem that rain will never come but God provides at just the right time. This episode came at the end of the Feast of Booths. The ceremony included prayers for rain because the dry summers presented a need for water. Jesus used this time to present himself as the source of rain and the Water of Life. He also used this opportunity to assure his followers that they would receive the Holy Spirit as well. This would be a unique Feast of Booths indeed.

The drought without a king for Israel lasted 400 years until the Water of Life came to be the King of Kings. Now the drought is over because all who believe in him, you and me, shall never thirst again. Rivers of flowing water flow from us as the Holy Spirit guides our thoughts, words, and actions. Jesus Christ is glorified because of his death and resurrection. He sits enthroned in heaven.

We all have dry seasons in our lives as it seems God is not there. We are like farmers wondering if it will ever rain again. The Bible promises that it will. Believe it. Receive it. You will never thirst if you…

Pray for rain.
