For if you return to the LORD, your brothers and your children will find compassion with their captors and return to this land. For the LORD your God is gracious and merciful and will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him.”

I love Amnesty Day at the local library when they waive all fines for overdue materials. It is a chance for me to repent of my wrongdoing and receive forgiveness. The king of Israel, Hezekiah, was one of the few reforming kings of Israel. He destroyed all pagan influences in the land and then reinstituted the most important feast in Israel; the Passover. In this letter to the northern tribes, he called for a revival in the land because of the Assyrian captors. His letter called for repentance. His message for Israel is one we put on our highway sign for those who have lost hope. It is never too late. These must have been comforting words to read.

We too have comforting words in the Bible, that it is never too late to repent and turn to God. We have been through over a year and a half of captivity and strife. It is time to reinstitute the uniting ordinance of the church. It is time to gather together as a church and celebrate the Lord’s Supper. The Lord Jesus gave us this so we could celebrate the grace and mercy God has shown us in hard times. He has not turned his face away from us, although we deserve it. This Sunday, we will be at the Lord’s table. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are invited. If not, return to the Lord to receive the forgiveness of sins…

It is never too late.
