This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant.

23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever.

Guaranteed acceptance. You cannot be turned down. This is the claim of insurance companies in TV commercials. It is also the claim of the author of Hebrews in chapter 7. Thus begins the great and long passage on the new and better covenant that Jesus instituted at the Last Supper before going to cross to seal it. The old covenant was mediated by priests who died after making sacrifices for atonement of sins that would not last so they had to repeat them. The people could not follow the law so these sacrifices needed to be made to satisfy the wrath of God. Hebrews presented a better Moses, a better Aaron, a better covenant, and a better life. Forever.

The best thing about this new covenant is that it is for everyone. All those God chose, regardless of nation or race, are guaranteed a place in the kingdom because our Great High Priest went to the cross to shed the necessary blood. Now, once and for all, the wrath of God the Father is satisfied. We know longer need to go to a priest who dies to confess our sins. We now go to the throne in prayer, we confess our sins to him directly, and we receive the forgiveness of those sins directly.

Now we are in Christ and there is nothing anyone can do, and nothing Satan can do to stop it. We are enrolled in the greatest life insurance policy ever created. We have eternal life at the cost of the Lamb. Believe that and…

You cannot be turned down.
