Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.
Many prisoners in the Nazi death camps were put to work for no apparent purpose, moving bricks from one pile to another and then back the next day. The lack of purpose led to their decline and death. My many years of toil seemed similar to this but I now see that God’s purpose was perfect. Paul was in prison himself and was able to communicate the purpose of his ministry to the church in Colossae who were possibly being drawn away from worshiping Christ alone. Paul had the greatest job on earth and it is shared by church leaders today. We are to proclaim Christ, disciple each other, and suffer for Jesus.
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and see what empowered Paul to rejoice and minister from a prison and how we can do these things wherever we are. All we need to do is know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, proclaim him as King, and do his work in the world. We can do that from our air conditioned living room. We will learn from Paul that it is not a burden to suffer for Christ and it is not someone else’s job to shout his name from the rooftops. It is our job to tell others and disciple each other…
It is the best job on earth!
