Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez fathered Hezron, 19 Hezron fathered Ram, Ram fathered Amminadab, 20 Amminadab fathered Nahshon, Nahshon fathered Salmon, 21 Salmon fathered Boaz, Boaz fathered Obed, 22 Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David.

If you have ever attempted to read through the Bible in a year, you know the enormous temptation to skim through the genealogies and get back to the important stuff. Don’t skim this one. At first, it seems an odd ending and epilogue to a beautiful love story between Boaz and Ruth. In a movie, it would be a quick couple of seconds and then on to the credits. Everything Naomi and Ruth went through must have seemed pointless and cruel on the part of God. then came the redeemer and all was well. The last five verses bear out the fact that they did not know the half of it. Their great-grandson would be King David, the first of the line of the House of David that would climax in the King of Kings, Jesus Christ, the Great Redeemer!

There are many things that happen in our life that are major; loss of loved ones, health crises, homelessness. At the time, the purpose of such painful events may elude you. I have had disappointments, only to find that they were merely what I wanted, not God’s will. Now that I know his will for my life, I can look back and rejoice. The main reason for that is that the Redeemer has come and has died for my sins. He sits on his throne and, as Colossians says, holds everything together. Now we know that we can endure hardships and sorrows. Because…

Our Redeemer lives!
